PL Courses
Blending with Schoology was designed to help teachers bring blended learning concepts with the emphasis that the LMS is the backbone for this type of learning. It is a fully online course and runs on our district LMS, Schoology. Teachers dove into the importance of course aesthetics and building digital content, emphasizing the importance of UDL. Teachers than had choice between the following topics to complete the course: digital community and collaboration, mastery learning, and feedback.
As part of their learning, teachers were encouraged to take the risk of harnessing the power of video. This included both the native recorder in Schoology as well as WeVideo.
The assessment for the course was an ongoing digital journal. Many teachers use interactive notebook at all levels to help keep students organized within a unit or topic. However, for this course, I used the term "journal" as the basis of the assessment was reflection.
The journal also included instructions on how to do basic tech skills, such as screen recording, so that each participant could be successful in the course.
The journal was built in Google Slides. Each of the pages was created and uploaded as a background image for the Slide so the participants didn't accidentally delete aspects of the journal. I then added text boxes to necessary areas for reflection.
The template of the journal is on the left.

I designed Google Drawings for the Classroom for teachers to not only learn the lesser known Google app, but also collaborate and provide feedback to one another. Teachers received weekly videos as well as content related to graphic design to help them develop their own graphics to use with students. Weekly assignments were submitted through discussion forum for others to view and comment.
Prior to designing this course, I conducted a needs analysis and drafted a Design Document to outline the course. Click below to view the Design Document.
After adopting Schoology in 2018, I recognized that our district needed the next level of Schoology training. All secondary teachers had gone through the basics to meet the minimum expectations of use for the district. The following summer, I developed Schoology 2.0 for those who wanted to take the next steps. This course focused on the tools in Schoology and how teachers could incorporate them into their classroom.
